Continuing my journey with the AWS re/Start program, Week 1 was packed with learning and hands-on activities that deepened my understanding of cloud computing and essential professional skills. Here's a recap of what I experienced and learned this week.
Technical Learning: Diving into AWS Basics
The technical sessions this week were incredibly insightful. We explored foundational concepts of cloud computing and AWS services, including:
Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC): Understanding the processes involved in planning, developing, testing, and deploying software.
AWS Service Models: Gaining clarity on different models like IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS.
Key AWS Concepts: Learning about core ideas such as scalability, elasticity, and high availability.
Hands-On Lab Activities
One of the highlights of the week was the hands-on lab, where I got to apply these concepts practically. Here’s what I worked on:
Launching an EC2 Instance: Setting up and starting a virtual machine in the cloud.
Monitoring an Instance: Using AWS tools to track the performance and health of my EC2 instance.
Updating Security Groups: Configuring access rules to ensure secure connections.
Accessing a Web Server: Setting up and connecting to a web server hosted on AWS.
Resizing and Terminating Instances: Learning how to scale resources up or down and cleanly terminate instances when no longer needed.
These hands-on tasks gave me a solid understanding of how AWS services work in real-world scenarios.
Soft Skills: Building a Growth Mindset
In addition to technical training, the soft skills sessions focused on personal and professional growth. We delved into:
Growth Mindset: Emphasizing the importance of embracing challenges, learning from feedback, and persisting through difficulties.
Behavioral Skills: Developing effective communication, teamwork, and adaptability to thrive in collaborative environments.
Final Thoughts
Week 1 was an enriching experience, blending technical expertise with personal growth. From launching EC2 instances to exploring the importance of a growth mindset, every moment reinforced my commitment to this program and my journey in cloud computing.
I’m excited to see what the upcoming weeks hold as I continue to develop both technical and soft skills. Stay tuned for more updates on my AWS re/Start journey!
